THE OHIO STATE RESEARCH FOUNDATION GARRETT LEE SMITH GRANT
Purpose: The purpose of Ohio’s Garrett Lee Smith grant is to provide a coordinated statewide suicide prevention mental health check up program to assess, with active parental consent, youth ages 11-18 in Ohio’s counties that have the highest youth suicide rates, and to immediately link those at risk or in imminent danger to appropriate behavioral health care. The project includes the following two goals:
Goal 1: Sustain, develop and increase the infrastructure for and use of an evidenced-based suicide risk assessment program in Ohio.
Goal 2: Improve the productivity and fidelity of the mental health check up program through continuous evaluation and feedback to program stakeholders and constituents.
In year one of the grant, current, established evidenced-based mental health check up programs in Ohio will be offered a grant to sustain and increase their current programs. In addition, six new Ohio evidenced-based programs will be identified and be offered a grant.
