Event Time: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

“Practical Tips for Prevention Coalitions to Enhance Member Recruitment and Engagement” by coalition expert and trainer, Andrea Hoff, MPA, GPC, OCPC, ICPS, Owner/President, You Thrive Training & Consulting, LLC.

Too often, the makeup of prevention coalitions tends to be comprised of a small handful of three to four core members that take on the bulk of the coalition’s work. In fact, many coalition leaders feel overburdened and overwhelmed, wishing that more community members would join their efforts. This is a clear recipe for burnout and something that all coalitions should try to avoid. So how do you get more community members to become actively involved in coalition work to help the coalition fulfill its vital mission? This session will help prevention coalition leaders to understand just what it takes to recruit new members to their coalition. Initially, the session will cover information related to creating coalition appeal – how to make their coalition a place where people want to be. Information will be presented that focuses on the soft skills that are required for professional networking that helps to develop community partners, allies, and champions. Then, attendees will learn the logistics of effective recruitment strategies. And finally, this session will teach coalition leaders and members how to develop a formalized recruitment plan.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify ways to make their coalitions more appealing to community members.
  2. Articulate the soft skills required in developing partners, allies, and community champions.
  3. Define the 4 Cs method for recruiting new coalition members.
  4. Develop a formalized coalition recruitment plan.

CEUs: This training is approved by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board for 1.50 hours for prevention professionals.
