Monthly Webinar Series: The Intersection of Problem Gambling and Suicide

Feb 28, 2023

Event Time: 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Virtual

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, but this issue disproportionately impacts individuals living with Gambling Disorder. These numbers alone answer the question of “why should clinicians ask about suicide when treating a Gambling Disorder?” But beyond that, “what can we do about it?” In this session, speakers from the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio and the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation will present their multi-layered approach including: providing Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training to problem gambling prevention professionals, clinicians, and Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline operators; performing quality assurance calls to the Helpline to collect data on the effectiveness of lethality assessments; training gaming venue staff on warning signs, destigmatizing language and dialogue; and encouraging community coalition work to integrate these important and connected issues through education, awareness, and advocacy.

Registration is free for OSPF members and $25 for non-members. An application for continuing education has been submitted for prevention, addiction counseling, social work, counseling, and psychologists.

This webinar will feature American Sign Language Interpretation.
